Individual Therapy

I provide individual therapy services that can help you navigate and overcome various mental health challenges. With a focus on evidence-based treatments, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in particular, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where we can work together to improve your well-being. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or any other concerns, this personalized approach can assist you in achieving lasting positive change.

Currently, all therapy services are offered remotely through video-enabled telehealth. This video platform is available through a secure system called SimplePractice that’s easy to use on a laptop, desktop, or smartphone, and doesn’t require you to download anything. Detailed instructions for accessing and using the telehealth platform are provided during the initial phone consultation and appointment scheduling.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of treatment that is evidence-based and is effective at improving the symptoms and everyday functioning of people experiencing psychological concerns. CBT can reduce symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Social Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobias, and many other mental health conditions.

During CBT, you will learn to readily identify your thoughts, emotions, actions, and the interrelations between these facets of your day-to-day life. By becoming aware of negative thinking, and the ways it contributes to unwelcome feelings and maladaptive behaviors, you will become better able to take charge of your feelings and behaviors. One major component of CBT is cognitive restructuring. This is the process of challenging inaccurate negative thoughts, such as “I never communicate well in social situations” and “I’m a failure”, then learning to identify more accurate thoughts like “Sometimes I get tongue-tied in social situations, but not all the time” and “I haven’t succeeded yet in all the ways I would have liked to, though I am still making progress”. By using this technique of modifying your thoughts, you will in turn be able to modify your emotions and actions.

There are many techniques involved in CBT. Some of the following may be employed during CBT, depending on the way therapy is personalized to you.

  • Cognitive restructuring

  • Behavioral activation

  • Deep breathing

  • Progressive muscle relaxation

  • Exposure and response prevention

  • Systematic desensitization

  • Problem solving

  • Mindfulness-based strategies

  • Imagery

  • Behavioral experiments
